Police detectives have released a former student leader of the ruling Awami League after interrogation over the murder of a party leader.
MA Rouf, former general secretary of Tangail district unit Chhatra League was picked up by the police on Saturday night in connection with the murder of local Awami League leader and freedom fighter Faruq Ahmed.
Rouf is also the general secretary of Tangail's Red Crescent unit.
Detective Bureau Inspector Mahfizur Rahman told Dhaka Tribune that Rouf was released around 9am on Sunday.
The bullet-ridden body of Faruq Ahmed, who was a member of Tangail Awami League and also the former joint secretary of the committee, was recovered near his house in Collegepara on January 18, 2013.
His wife Nahar Ahmed later filed a case against unidentified assailants.
