Joy: 50% news reported in local media wrong

Update : 15 Nov 2014, 06:40 PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son and also her IT Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy yesterday claimed that about half of the news items reported by the Bangladeshi media are wrong.

“Almost 50% news items reported by the Bangladeshi media are based on wrong information and it is very difficult to depend on all news. So we should try to know everything with our won efforts,” Wazed said.

He also stated that Awami League student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has been doing many social welfare activities which were not being focused in the media rather they criticised the organisation.

The adviser made the remarks in the inauguration ceremony of a national platform, namely Young Bangla, at Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in the capital.

In the programme, over 200 youth organisations’ representatives from 64 districts joined as partners, where Joy made the statement in response to a query from one of them about the disorder in student politics particularly in the BCL.

“Problems in student politics appear as few leaders of the party (AL) have been involved in irregularities and corruption and then the student wing follow their path as well,” joy continued.

He, however, went on that the BCL does not tolerate such type of illegal activities. “During the AL tenures, its nearly 650 leaders and activists have been punished for different allegations hurled against them.”
