The activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) beat up three Udichi activists on Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) campus over a trifling matter in the early hours of yesterday.
The injured Udichi men were identified as Al Mujahid Mridul, Polash Chakraborty and Shafayet Hossain. Mridul is press secretary of BAU Udichi unit and rest two are general members of the same cultural organisation.
Campus sources said some BCL activists, including Musleh Uddin Irfan, Shahed Iqbal, Sheikh Abdullah Al Mamun, Al-Amin, beat up the Udichi men when they had gone to the hall around 12:30am for collecting money for their upcoming biannual convention scheduled to be held on 15 November.
“When we went to room no 137 of Nazmul Ahsan Hall, they (BCL activists) started rebuking us and beat lastly,” complained a victim.
Confessing the allegation, the BCL activists told the Dhaka Tribune that they had beat them men) as they were collecting money without permission of BCL leaders.
On receiving information, Acting Proctor of BAU Dr Mohammad Mohiruddin rushed to the hall and settled the matter discussing with hall administration, senior BCL and Udichi leaders.
Dr Mohiruddin said: “We would take steps so that this kind of incident would not take place in future.”
Earlier on February 17 this year, unruly BCL men allegedly beat up Udichi BAU unit general secretary Pritam Saha for protesting teasing of a female activist of his organisation.
