AL man killed in clash with BNP in Chittagong

An activist of Awami League has been chopped to death during a clash with BNP at Halishahor in the port city of Chittagong.

The deceased is Mahmudur Rahman, 24, organising secretary of Chittagong unit Bangabandhu Parishad, said Syed Abu Mohammad Shahjahan Kabir, officer-in-charge of Halishahor police station.

Another AL activist Kamrul Islam Bipul, 25, was injured in the incident, he said.

Kabir said: “Local AL and BNP men locked into a clash in B Block area near at Halishahor Trainning School around 9pm that continued till 9:30pm on Sunday night centring supremacy in the area.”

During the clash, Mahmudur was chopped to death and Bipul was seriously injured allegedly by the BNP activists, he said.

The police official said on information, police rushed to the spot and took the situation under control.

Till filing of this report at 10:20pm, a tense situation is prevailing in the area over the matter.
