Khaleda to address Natore rally today

Update : 31 Oct 2014, 08:04 PM

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia is expected to address the public rally of BNP-led 20-party alliance in Natore today to mobilise mass support in favour of the demand of election under a non-partisan interim government.

The meeting will start at 2pm at Nawab Siraj Ud Doula College grounds where thousands of people are expected, said the party leaders.

Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu will chair the meeting.

Dulu said the meeting was rescheduled on November 1 from October 30 following the verdict for 1971 wartime atrocities against Motiur Rahman Nizami, chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, a partner of the BNP-led alliance.

The city at present showcases a festive look with hundreds of newly erected archways, billboards, placards and festoons to welcome the former premier.

BNP’s Natore district 20-party leaders, addressing a press briefing yesterday, sought help from  law enforcers and ruling party leaders to make the programme successful.

Dewan Shahin, convener of the decoration committee, said 112 archways have been set up along the road from the station bazar area to Kasikata toll plaza in Natore. A 60-foot wide and 40 foot long stage was already constructed.

“We will set up more than 150 loud-speakers alongside the Natore-Rajshahi roads to broadcast Khaleda Zia’s speech,” he said.

Aminul Haq, Natore district BNP secretary, said the 20-party leaders and activists from Bogra, Naogon, Joypurhat, Rajshahi, Pabna and Sirajgonj will join the meeting.

Mashiur Rahman, deputy commissioner of police, said a good number of law enforcers including police forces and magistrates would be deployed in the meeting area to avert any untoward situation.
