The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has fixed Sunday to pass order on the ACC petition to modify the order of chamber judge regarding the hearing date of leave to appeal of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust case.
The five member SC bench, led by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain, fixed the date yesterday after hearing both sides.
On October 16, the chamber judge of the Appellate Division fixed November 27 for hearing on Khaleda’s leave to appeal petition in the corruption case.
Yesterday, Joynul Abedin moved for Khaleda while Khurshid Alam Khan moved for the ACC.
During hearing, Joynul Abedin said: “There is no ground for the ACC to file the petition. The chamber judge fixed the date after hearing both sides.”
At one point, Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury told Joynul: “You have come to the court several times only to prolong the case…You people are taking too much time.”
In reply, Joynul said: “The ACC filed the petition with an ill motive. They did not even show the ground of modification.” After the hearing, the court fixed Sunday to pass order.
