Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has come up with some comment in a jesting tone on Bangladesh's success in securing two top positions in the IPU and CPA election.
Bangladesh parliament member Saber Hossain Chowdhury and Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury secured the president and chairperson posts in Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) elections respectively. On Wednesday the government arranged a special programm in their honour.
Referring to the elections, Prime Minister Hasina jestingly said the journalists even did not thanked the government on securing two top posts of two global organisations.
The prime minister briefed journalists on her recent Italy visit at her official residence Ganabhaban. Later she took questions from journalists.
In the beginning of the question and answer session, Sheikh Hasina said: “You [journalists] haven't even thanked us. Nobody congratulates us for the achievement in the CPA and IPU elections.”
The premier was seen smiling while making the comment.
She expressed her satisfaction over the achievement, saying that: “Bangladesh is moving forward despite many challenges.”
During the press meet, the prime minister briefed the media about the achievement of Bangladesh from the 10th Asia-Europe Meeting (Asem) Summit in Milan, Italy where the heads of state and government of the 27 European countries and the European Commission, as well as their counterparts from 16 Asian countries, gathered.
