“We pushed Joy onto the stage on the first day of our council and we requested him to deliver a speech, but he declined. We requested him to hold a post in the central committee, but he again declined asking how could it be possible with him staying abroad. Joy sent a message: do not turn me into Tarique Zia.”
“He is eager to play the leadership role. But there is the question of his consent, it ca not be imposed,” said Obaidul Quader.
Quoting Joy's remarks and observations during the council, the new AL general secretary made the statement following the first meeting with the new secretaries in the party's Dhanmondi office on Wednesday.
He also said: “We have many dreams regarding him. But he will not be coerced into anything. Besides, Sheikh Hasina is still among us, and she will oversee the matter. He is our future leader.”
