Musa Ibrahim interested in politics

Update : 12 Oct 2014, 06:58 PM

Musa Ibrahim, the first Bangladeshi to conquer Mount Everest, expressed interest in joining politics at a discussion event in Sadullahpur Press Club in Gaibandha, on Saturday evening.

However, he did not mention which party he wanted to join.

Speaking at the event, Musa said Bangladesh is doing well in improving sanitation, healthcare, agriculture, child mortality reduction, and so on compared to many neighbouring countries.

He said that he would join constructive politics in the future to continue the development of this country.

The discussion, which followed a reception in Musa’s honour at the Noldanga Shahid Minar premises in Sadullahpur in Gaibandha, was also attended by the local Awami League and Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal leaders.

However, when contacted, Musa admitted to saying he wanted to join politics, but claimed he was not serious about it.

“I was not serious when I said that. It was just table talk,” he said.

He added that he would consider joining politics in 10 to 20 years, not immediately.

But when asked whether he would join any existing political party or form a new one, he did not answer.

Musa became a celebrity overnight after conquering Mount Everest in 2010. Recently, there have been controversies as to whether he was the first Bangladeshi to do so.
