Mahbub: Forget who did what in 1971

Update : 29 Sep 2014, 09:22 PM

BNP chairperson’s Adviser Khandakar Mahbub Hossain yesterday urged everyone to unite after forgetting what role any individual played during the Liberation War in 1971 – a war which the BNP’s political ally Jamaat-e-Islami opposed.

“We are Bangalees and we believe in the independence of the country. Who did what in 1971 has to be forgotten and everyone has to be united. There is no alternative to it. All the problems will be solved if only the Awami League government steps down from the office,” he said.

Addressing a discussion at the Dhaka Reporters Unity auditorium, the BNP leader, who was also a senior counsellor for war criminal Delwar Hossain Sayedee, said there was only one problem prevailing in the country which only had one solution.

“If we oust the government from office, then all the problems will be solved.”

Mahbub claimed that the “illegal government” has been formulating laws one after another and shackling the whole nation gradually.

“The government has formulated broadcast policy and ICT law and finally the impeachment bill. The government has done so to keep the judges under pressure. The illegal government has lost its balance. Now all have to do is be united in order to oust the government from office,” he said.

The BNP adviser said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia would make a call at the right time to ensure the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government.

“Sheikh Hasina has climbed on the shoulder of a tiger; she cannot get down from it. She will not hold any election, so her stepping down would be ensured through a mass uprising. The BNP leader [Khaleda] will call on the right time. There is no scope of devaluing Khaleda Zia’s experience and wisdom,” he said.
