Ruling Awami League and its associate bodies celebrated the 68th birthday of its president Sheikh Hasina, who is also the prime minister of the country, through various programmes across the country yesterday.
Cutting cakes, Discussions, milad mahfils, cultural events, and distribution of foods among the poor were organised to mark the day.
In celebration of the birthday of the premier, who is in New York City now to attend the 69th UN general assembly, central leaders of Awami League and the USA unit of the party had given a floral reception to the prime minister, wishing her sound health and a long life.
Marking the day, special prayers were offered and milad mahfils were held at different mosques, including Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, after Johr prayers yesterday. Special prayers were also offered at Dhakeshwari National Temple and other places of worship including churches and pagodas.
A milad and doa mahfil was held at Gonobhaban, the official residence of the premier. The prime minister’s personal staff, well-wishers, party leaders and employees of the Prime Minister’s Office and Ganobhaban attended the milad mahfil.
Dhaka City Awami League organised a milad and doa mahfil and a discussion at the party’s central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city after Asar prayer.
Several associate bodies of the party like Swechhashebok League, Motor Sromik Lrague, Jubo League and Sheikh Russell Jatiya Shishu Kishore Parishad organised separate programmes to celebrate the day.
