Awami League Presidium member Obaidul Quader yesterday came down hard on the leaders and activists who are extorting people on many pretexts in the name of the party.
“The commodities have not only been laced with inert ingredients but also our party with fakes. We have to remain alert about them because they are the petty leaders who are harming our party most” he said.
“Form the putting up of so many posters and billboards around us, it seems that this city has turned out to the hub of making leaders,” said Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said at a discussion as chief guest in the capital.
“The misdeeds of some persons of our party are ruining the feats of the government and the party,” he said and suggested: “We have to think why a party gets out of power.”
Referring to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, the Awami League leader said she had failed to reach the countrymen through her anti-government movement and so “They (she and her party men) have become busy with diplomacy rather than relying on anti-government movement.”
The minister said: “We are grappling with the repairs of the highways because they have suffered extensive damage from heavy rainfall. It is really difficult to repair the highways without working round the clock.”
