Col (retd) Oli Ahmed, chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), claimed that the Anti-Corruption Commission summoned him to submit his wealth statement because he refused to be a minister of the incumbent government.
“Since I refused to take up the government’s proposal to be a minister, I have appear before the commission to submit my wealth statement,” he told reporters while leaving the ACC headquarters yesterday. “Someone placed a complaint against me in 1996 claiming I have properties disproportionate to my known source of income, so I have come here to submit my wealth statement,” he said.
Oli submitted his wealth statement to ACC Secretary Maksudul Hassan Khan, following a notice served to him by ACC Deputy Director Golam Faruq on September 10.
However, ACC Commissioner M Shahabuddin Chuppu, now the acting chairman, refuted Oli’s claim.
The commissioner said after the High Court gave ruling in ACC’s favour in 2007, it served Oli with the notice.
