Finance Minister AMA Muhith has said the people of the country do not want anymore hartals.
He made the statement while addressing a programme in Sylhet on Monday morning.
The Minister said: “The people of the country are now boycotting the hartal spontaneously. BNP alliance wants to hinder the development of the country with hartals.”
Muhith said: “The BNP alliance’s movement has failed. Now again they are trying to make the public suffer in the name of hartal.”
The BNP alliance enforced the nationwide general strike on Monday protesting the 16th amendment of the constitution that empowered the parliament to impeach judges.
Earlier, its key ally Jamaat-e-Islami observed a 24-hour shutdown on Sunday and Thursday protesting the Appellate Division's verdict that handed down Jamaat leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee imprisonment until natural death.
