MP Enamul's PS 'threatens to kill' ACC official

Update : 10 Sep 2014, 10:30 AM

Awami League lawmaker (Rajshahi 4) Enamul Haque’s personal secretary (PS) has allegedly given death threat to a deputy director of Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) asking him not to file a case against the MP following an allegation of accumulation of illegal wealth.

The ACC official filed a general diary (GD) with Ramna police station in the afternoon seeking his security.

“PS Khanchan Das threaten to vanish [kill] me on Wednesday afternoon asking me not to file any case against the lawmaker," ACC DD Ratan Kumar Roy, also the investigation officer of the case, told the Dhaka Tribune.

Earlier on Monday, the ACC quizzed Rajshahi 4 lawmaker Enamul Haque in connection with accumulation of illegal wealth.

Later, the lawmaker claimed that he did not have any illegal wealth. He also challenged the ACC for bringing such allegation against him.

The commission on January 22 initiated an inquiry against six ruling party leaders and a former Jatiya Party lawmaker on charges of amassing illegal wealth.

The probe was prompted by their wealth statements, submitted to the Election Commission before the January 5 elections, which showed dramatic rise in their wealth.

On March 9, ACC served a notice to the lawmaker and his wife Tahura Haque asking them to submit a furnished wealth statement containing lists of all their movable and immovable properties within the next seven working days.

However, Enamul ignored the notice and sought extension of time.

The ACC later granted extension of deadline till March 31, though Enamul failed to file the statement again.

Later on April 1, Enamul served the statement to ACC, however the commission denied to receive the wealth statement as the deadline had already expired on March 31.
