Miscreants chopped a local Awami League (AL) leader to death at Jiudhara village in Morelganj upazila on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Mozammel Shikdar, 60, son of late Hashem Shikdar of the village, reports UNB.
He was AL general secretary of ward no 9 of Nishanbaria union in the upazila.
Morelganj police station officer-in-charge Aslam Khan said a group of miscreants attacked Mozammel and chopped him indiscriminately when he was returning home from mosque after Esha prayers around 9:30pm, leaving him severely injured.
Locals rushed him to the upazila health complex where doctors declared him dead.
On information, police sent the body to Khulna Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Dispute over a land and also his political enmity with his neighbour might be the reason behind the murder, police suspected.
