A sedition case has been filed on Sunday afternoon against earlier imprisoned twenty-two leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh including Amir, Nayebey Amir, and secretary of its Barisal city unit.
The case was lodged after a fax from home ministry reached in Barisal on Sunday morning giving approval for lodging the sedition case.
Shakhawat Hossain, Barisal Kotwali police station officer-in-charge, as complainant filed the case no.79/14 under section 120-Kha/124-Ka of sedition act.
In the case the complainant alleged that the accused Jamaat leaders and activists involved in an anti-state conspiracy and planned for sabotage activities against the state.
Matiur Rahman, officer-in-charge (investigation), was appointed as investigation officer of the case.
Accused 22 Jamaat leaders and activists included Ameer Advocate Moazzem Hossain Helal, Nayebey Ameer Bazlur Rahman, secretary Jahiruddin Md. Babar, assistant secretary Mawlana Matiur Rahman, Barisal correspondent of Daily Sangram Prof. Shah Alam, Abur Rouf, Moazzem Hossain Haoladar, Mahbubur Rahman, Mizanur Rahman, Shafiullah Talukdar, Joynal Abedin, Ismail Hossain, Md. Russel, diploma engineer Saiful Islam, retired armed police battalion member Abul Kalam, Abul Kasem, Shamim, Kabir, Shahjahan, Siraj, field assistant of health department Abdus Sattar, medicine trader, Rafikul Isam.
Shakhawat Hossain, complainant of the case, said police arrested the accused 22 Jamaat leaders and activists after raiding first floor of the house named 'Doctors Quarter' owned by Dr. Majed Ali at South Alekanda area of the city on August 14 night for alleged planning sabotage on National Mourning Day.
Police also seized Tk1,75,700 and 22 mobile phone sets from the arrestees.
The detained 22 Jamaat leaders and activists later shown arrested under section 54 of penal code and court refusing their bail prayer ordered to send them to Barisal Central Jail on August 15.
Complainant of the case and Kotwali police station officer-in-charge also sent a prayer to home ministry through offices of the Barisal Metropolitan Police Commissioner and Inspector General of Police to detain the accused under sedition act for anti-state activities.
A reply from home ministry approving that prayer reached on Sunday morning through fax signed by state minister of home affairs.
Police placed the approval before the chief metropolitan magistrate of Barisal on Sunday noon for lodging sedition case against the 22 imprisoned Jamaat leaders and activists.
Md. Wahiduzzaman, the CMM of Barisal, receiving copy of the order from home ministry asked police to act as per law.
On other hand, Prof. Abdul Jabbar and Mawlana Habibur Rahman, Amir of east and west district units, Advocate Salahuddin Masum, councilor ward-14 of BCC and organising secretary of city unit JIB, condemning lodging sedition case said not the Jamaat but the AL-led government is doing anti-state activities by using state machineries to suppress their opposition voices.
