Update : 28 Aug 2014, 07:18 AM

Islami Chhatra Sena, the student wing of Bangladesh Islami Front, has declared to enforce countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal on Sunday, if the killers of Shaikh Nurul Islam Faruqi are not arrested by Saturday.

Jamal Uddin Rabbani, general secretary of Islami Chhatra Sena, told the Dhaka Tribune around 6pm.

Earlier, while talking to the Dhaka Tribune, he said: “Chhatra Sena has called a nationwide hartal for Sunday protesting the killing of Shaikh Nurul Islam Faruqi."

In the morning, the Islami organisation called a dawn-to-dusk hartal in the districts of Chittagong, Comilla, Bandarban, Khagrachhari, Rangamati and Cox’s Bazar for Sunday.

On Wednesday night, unidentified armed assailants slaughtered Shaikh Nurul Islam Faruqi at his own residence in the capital's East Rajabazar area.

The deceased was also the Presidium member and international affairs secretary of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat – an organisation known better for opposing the views of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Faruqi also served as the Presidium member of Islamic Front Bangladesh – a platform of several Islamist groups.

Apart from the anchoring programmes titled “Shantir Pothe” and “Kafela” on Channel i, he owned Faruque Tours and Travels Private Limited, a Hajj agency, and served as the imam of Supreme Court mosque.
