BNP: Hasina’s hands are stained in blood

Update : 24 Aug 2014, 07:33 PM

Countering the prime minister’s allegation that the BNP is a party of killers, the BNP has said Sheikh Hasina’s hands are in fact blood stained.

“The Awami League president [Sheikh Hasina] herself is a killer. Her party is a party of killers. Her hands are stained with the bloods of hundreds of young people,” Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, acting secretary general of BNP, said at a press briefing yesterday.

Hasina on Thursday termed the Zia family a family of killers. She said Ziaur Rahman had been involved with the killing of Bangabandhu and Khaleda Zia, her son Tarique Rahman and her cabinet members with the August 21 grenade attack.

BNP also believes that what the prime minister has said is tantamount to contempt of court because her statement was related to the August 21 grenade attack case, which is now under trial.

“The prime minister’s recent statement implicating Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman and BNP, is untrue, fabricated and politically motivated. We think she is not only influencing but also misleading the court,” Fakhrul said.

Terming the August 21 grenade attack “heinous and dreadful,” the BNP spokesperson said his party condemned the incident and tried to identify the real criminals when it was in power.

“BNP still wants the real mystery unveiled; but it is not acceptable that the incident was used to achieve a political motive. Tarique Rahman was implicated in the case purposefully,” he said.

When asked about the Joj Mia drama that the BNP had allegedly staged to divert the case, the BNP leader said: “Properly investigating the attack was BNP’s political decision. That investigation was conducted by an investigation agency.”

Claiming that Tarique was not involved, Fakhrul advised journalists to keep an eye on the developments in the case.

“Tarique’s name was not included when a charge sheet was submitted during the tenure of the army-backed caretaker government. Tarique was implicated when Awami League assumed office and the investigation officer was changed,” Fakhrul reminded.

He also said international probe body FBI also investigated the incident; but Sheikh Hasina did not cooperate with the investigators from FBI and the judiciary.
