Police yesterday submitted three charge sheets in the case regarding the explosion of a handmade bomb that injured a schoolgirl’s eye during a general strike in 2013.
The three charge sheets accused a total of 13 Jamaat-Shibir men, including ANM Mashrur Hossain, president of the city (south) unit of Shibir in Chittagong, said court sources.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Kamruzzaman of Kotwali police station, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted the charge sheets before General Registry Office (GRO) of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court.
Assistant Commissioner (Prosecution) Nirmalendu Bikash Chakrabarty of Chittagong Metropolitan Police confirmed that the GRO officer had received the charge sheets and said it will be produced before CMM Md Mashiur Rahman as early as possible.
Other persons accused in the charge sheets were Md Tareque Hossain, general secretary of the district (south) unit of Shibir, Nurul Amin, general secretary of the city (north) unit of Shibir, Md Faisal Younus, amir of the Kotwali unit of Jamaat-e-Islam, Jamaat activist ANM Harun, Md Sohel Rana, organising secretary of the city (south) unit of Shibir, Mawlana Ferdous Quoreshi, acting general secretary of the district (south) of Jamaat, and Shibir activists Amzad Ali, Delwar Hossain, Manjur Alam, Kafil Uddin, Mizanur Rahman and Altaf Hossain Chowdhury.
“Among them, ANM Mashrur Hossain, Md Tareque Hossain and ANM Harun are on the run,”SI Kamruzzaman told the Dhaka Tribune.
He also said one charge sheet was submitted under Section 143, 447, 448, 449 and 324 of Criminal Procedure Code while another was submitted under Sections 3 and 4 of Explosives Act while the third was submitted under Section 15 (3) of the Special Power Act. Seventeen prosecution witnesses were named in each of the charge sheets, he said.
According to the charge sheet, the accused collaborated with each other in exploding a crude bomb during 18-party alliance called shutdown to create panic among the city people. The blast resulted in a critical eye injury of a schoolgirl, Antu Barua. The charge sheets also mentioned that an accused Amzad Ali, who hurled the crude bombs on that day, gave his confessional statement under Section 164 under Criminal Procedure Code before a Chittagong court.
Besides, two accused whose name were in the First Information Report -- Md Mohiuddin, 30, general secretary of the city (south) unit of Shibir, and Shibir activist Jalal -- were not mentioned in the charge sheets as the IO did not find their involvement with the incident.
On March 28, 2013, Antu Barua, a student of class nine of Aparnacharan City Corporation Girls High School, received injuries in her right eyes when a crude bomb exploded on her way to a coaching centre on Momin Road in the city on the second day of the then BNP-led 18-party alliance enforced 36-hour long shutdown. On March 29, 2013, SI Jafor Iqbal of Kotwali Police Station lodged a case with the police station in this connection.
“We want such incident will occur in none’s life,” said Antu’s parents; demanding exemplary punishment of them who turns his daughter’s life into uncertainty.
