BNP: Hasina lying to hide her failures

Update : 17 Aug 2014, 08:06 PM

In reply to prime minister’s allegation that Ziaur Rahman was involved in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman killing, the BNP yesterday said the premier was telling a lie to hide the government’s failure.

“The prime minister is lying in her usual style. She is trying to cover up her government’s failure by making remarks on BNP founder Ziaur Rahman involving him in the Bangabandhu killing,” said Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, acting secretary general of the party..

Addressing a programme at the Institution of Engineers’ Bangladesh, the spokesperson of the party criticised the prime minister and said: “She is the prime minister and people do not expect such comment from her. Everybody knows that Awami League leader Khandakar Moshtak was involved in Sehikh Mujibur Rahman killing.”

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the National Mourning day said: “Killer Rashid in an interview with the BBC admitted that Ziaur Rahman was behind the killing of (Sheikh Mujibur Rahman).”

Fakhrul alleged that the government was totally irresponsible. “What more can be expected from such a leader? Sheikh Hasina’s government has ruined all sorts of democratic institutions and it is the Awami League’s nature.”

Earlier, at a press briefing party’s Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged that Sheikh Hasina was “perhaps involved in Ziaur Rahman killing”.

“Ziaur Rahman was killed just 13 days into the arrival of Sheikh Hasina in the country and on that day she tried to cross the border. After the assassination of Ziaur Rahman the way the Awami League expressed its joy, it seems that she (Hasina) and many others were involved in Zia killing,” he said.

Rizvi also said the prime minister lied as she said Ziaur Rahman did not allow Hasina to enter Bangladesh. “It is a blatant lie. Sheikh Hasina returned to the country following the initiative of Ziaur Rahman.”

Condemning the prime minister’s comment, the BNP leader said: “We believe that Sheikh Hasina is lying to mislead people. Ziaur Rahman never made any foul comment on Sehikh Mujibur Rahman neither did Khaleda Zia make any disparaging comment.”
