BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday said the Awami League leaders maligned the image of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by extorting money in the name of observing his death anniversary.
“They dishonour their leaders by extorting money on the occasion of August 15,” she alleged after exchanging views with the Hindu community leaders at her Gulshan office.
The former premier alleged that the government was enacting laws one after another to eradicate democracy from the country.
She urged the people from all sections of life to raise their voice against the government’s such “conspiracy”.
“Democracy is dead today, she said.
She alleged that the Hindu community people are being harassed and Awami League leaders are grabbing their properties.
Khaleda said a joint secretary belonging to Hindu community was sent on forced retirement.
“The government has politicized the whole administration and around 100 officers have been made now OSD. The incompetent officials were appointed to different places and that’s why the administration could not function properly.”
The BNP chief also alleged that the government had also politicized the judiciary and it was formulating new law to control the judiciary.
