‘Some AL leaders behind Jahangir killing’

Update : 11 Aug 2014, 06:39 PM

The relatives of the murdered Jahangir Kabir, who was a presidential candidate for ward no 41 unit Awami League in the capital, have been blaming some local senior leaders for the killing.

Jahangir’s younger brother Masum told the Dhaka Tribune: “Acting president of the ward unit AL Nanna, acting general secretary Mamun, organisational secretary Forkan and one president candidate named Anwar Hossain Mintu have killed his brother with hired goons.”

Masum also said: “My brother was a presidential candidate for the ward. It is a political collusion. They (the leaders) were envious of my brother as local people used to give more priority to him than the aforesaid men.”

The victim’s continued: “Mamun, Nanna and Furkan leased two cattle markets in Agargaon area last year and my brother this year was trying his best to take the lease because he was the president of Momota Bohumukhi Somobay Samity and people used to obey him.”

Sher-E-Bangla Nagar police station SI Raju Ahmed said no relatives of Jahangir came to them to file a case in this connection. On Saturday night, unknown assailants shot Jahangir, 45, in front of his residence, leaving him critically injured.

Later, he was whisked off to a nearby hospital where on duty doctors declared him dead.
