An Awami League activist has been shot dead by miscreants at Puddar Bazar in Laxmipur Sadar upazila early Saturday.
The victim is Md Ahsanullah, 45, son of Sultan Ahmed, hailed from Nandigram village under Bashikpur union in the upazila.
Ahsanullah was an Awami League activist, Bashikpur union unit AL president Amir Hossain said.
Wahiduzzaman, a sub-inspector of Dattapara police investigation centre told the Dhaka Tribune that miscreants shot on Ahsanullah while he was going home to take Seheri at 3am from Poddar Bazar.
They left the spot leaving him dead, the SI added.
On information, police rushed to the spot and sent the body to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, Laxmipur Sadar police Officer-in-Charge Iqbal Hossain said.
