'Khaleda, Tarique should fix their demand first'

Update : 14 Jun 2014, 12:09 PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and his son Tarique Rahman should first fix what they actually want.

The premier made the statement during the question answer session after the media brief over her recent China tour at her official residence Ganabhaban on Saturday afternoon.

“Tarique Rahman is demanding my remand to solve the mystery of Ziaur Rahman's assassination. On the other hand, Khaleda Zia said her party was ready for dialogue with the government any time. They should determine first what they want,” said Hasina.

“The government is ready for anything for the interest of the people.”

While addressing a programme in Malaysia on Wednesday, BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman demanded ‘remand’ for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resolve the mystery of the assassination of Ziaur Rahman.

However, Khaleda Zia recently told an EU delegation that her party was ready for a dialogue with the government anytime to reach a consensus for holding an inclusive parliamentary election.

The premier said Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman should be placed on remand for revealing their involvement in Zia's assassination.

Replying a query whether Tarique Rahman would be brought back to the country for trial, she said: “Tarique's trial is going on. The government will do everything necessary for the trial.”
