BNP seeks extra time for holding council

Update : 29 May 2014, 10:56 PM

The BNP has sought extra time from the Election Commission (EC) to prepare its party council as it did not have sufficient time to do so.

The BNP’s Office Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi yesterday submitted a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad.

Rizvi came to the commission secretariat around 3pm yesterday and hurriedly left the commission without talking to press. Acting EC secretary Sirajul Islam confirmed the matter.

The party held their latest national council in December, 2009 and according to the directives of EC, BNP had to hold its next council by 2012 as a registered political party.

But despite several attempts the party failed to hold council and has been getting extensions from the EC repeatedly.
