BNP announced on Thursday that they will stage a countrywide protest programme on Sunday, denouncing the police bar on party members from holding a civil gathering in the capital.
“BNP believes that the police unconstitutionally and illegally barred our party men from holding a civil gathering. We are announcing the programme denouncing the bar on party Chairperson Khaleda Zia from hold the rally,” BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said while addressing a press conference at the party's Nayapaltan headquarters yesterday.
Rizvi further alleged the government has given police “a license” to oppress opposition party members.
He also berated the government for filing false cases against the senior BNP leaders, including Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
“Filing false cases and submitting charge sheets against senior leaders of the party has become a new way of the government to repress the opposition party,” he alleged.
