Chittagong University Teacher’s Association (CUTA) yesterday issued a 7-day ultimatum to the university authority to arrest the culprits immediately who assaulted Kajol Debnath, a teacher of the university’s Fine Arts Institute.
The ultimatum came up when members of CUTA formed a human chain in front of the Chittagong Press Club.
Protesting the attack, the speakers demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment to the attackers who launched an attack on the teacher.
Professor Benu Kumar Dey, president of CUTA presided over the program while Mustafizur Rahman, secretary of CUTA, Professor Imran Hossain, dean of Arts and Humanities faculty, Sankar Lal Saha, dean of Engineering faculty, Sekandar Chowdhury, former secretary of CUTA, addressed the human chain among others.
The speakers said if the demands were not met by the deadline set by the ultimatum, CUTA would launch tougher programme to press home their demand.
Kajol Debnath, an assistant professor of Fine Arts Institute of CU, was physically assaulted by Tanvir Sarwar Rana, the younger brother of Saimon Sarwar, a ruling party lawmaker from Cox’s Bazar Sadar constituency, at the campus premises in the city on April 10 allegedly over borrowing money.
