BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Tarique Rahman, party’s senior vice chairman, has revealed the truth of the history.
The BNP leader said this while addressing a discussion meeting at the National Press Club organized by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal protesting ‘derogatory comments’ against Tarique Rahman on Tuesday.
In the meeting, Fakhrul supported Tarique Rahman’s claim that BNP founder Ziaur Rahman is the first president of Bangladesh and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman became illegal prime minister in 1972.
Tarique Rahman made such comments referring different books and revealed the truth, he said.
“The ruling party Awami League men have been propagating against Tarique Rahman as he told the truth of the history,” he said.
“If there is anything wrong with his (Tarique) statement, Awami League could give logical explanation. But without giving any logical explanation, the ministers and leaders of the Awami League have been propagating against him.”
Pointing his finger to Tofail Ahmed, the BNP leader said: “Where he was in August 15, 1975? Rakkhibahini was under his leadership. No one was seen to protest the killing except Bangabir Quader Siddiqui but it was seen that many bigwigs are making comments.”
Fakhrul said it is nothing new rather it was the part of conspiracy about making falsehood against Ziaur Rahman, Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman.
The spokesperson of the party also said people of the country know very well who proclaimed the independence of the country and who crossed the border and led a luxurious life in Kolkata that time. “BNP does not want to involve any sort of controversy and debate.”
Urging the leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal, Fakhrul said: “Now we are passing a tough time. If we fail to come out from such situation, existence of Bangladesh will be at stake. We have to overcome the situation.”
