The body Shawkat Hossain Hiron, Barisal city Awami League president, lawmaker of Barisal 5 constituency and former city mayor, has been flown in home on Thursday afternoon.
A Bangladesh Air Force Helicopter carrying the body landed at Bangabandhu Udyan at 3:25pm.
Among others, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, AL lawmakers Jagangir Kabir Nanak, Bahauddin Nasim and Pankaj Devnath, Agrani Bank Director Balaram Poddar, Hiron’s wife, son and daughter accompanied his coffin.
Hiron’s elder brother Altaf Hossain received the coffin and brought it to his residence “Hiron Point” at Dengu Sardar lane of Alekanda area in the city.
People of all walks of life, including the activists of the AL and its front organizations, gathered at Bangabondhu Udyan in order to pay their last tribute to the politician.
Family sources said the body would be kept at home till Friday morning and later it would be taken to the city party office and Bangabandhu Udyan for for paying tributes and performing Namaj-e-Janaza.
The Namaj-e-Janaza of the veteran politician will be held after Juma prayer.
Hiron would be laid to rest by the side of the grave of his mother at Barisal Muslim Gorosthan (graveyard).
Hiron died at Apollo Hospitals in Dhaka on April 9. He was 58.
His body was taken to his Gulshan residence from the hospital and his first funeral was held at National Assembly Plaza following Asr prayer.
