A Chhatra League leader of Rajshahi University unit has been shot dead by miscreants on Friday noon.
Deceased Rustom Ali was the joint secretary of Shaheed Shuhwardy Hall unit of Chhatra League.
He was a fourth year student of political science department of the university.
ABM Rezaul Haque, officer-in-charge of Motihar police station, confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune about the death.
The miscreant could not be identified immediately, said the OC.
Resident students of the hall said they heard a sound of firing inside the hall at around 1:10pm. Afterwards, some students rushed to room no 230 where Rustom used to reside and found him bullet-hit on his chest.
Then the students rushed him to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
BCL RU unit president Mizanur Rahman Rana said he was unaware about the reason behind the incident.
RU proctor Professor Tarikul Hasan said he was looking into the matter.
The activists of BCL RU unit brought out a procession on the campus protesting the incident.
