C’nawabganj BNP president sent to jail

A Chapainawabganj court has sent district BNP president, and also the former whip Shahjahan Mia and three other party leaders to jail, rejecting their bail pleas.

Senior Chief Judicial Magistrate Selim Reza passed the order around 12 noon in two cases filed for setting fire to the house of Kansat movement leader Golam Rabbani and killing Shibganj Banik Samiti president Enamul Haque.

The other accused are municipality unit Jubo Dal President Muktadir Khayer Himel, municipality unit BNP General Secretary Shafiqul Islam and thana unit Jubo Dal President Ali Ahammed Babu.

Earlier on December 2, last year, BNP-Jamaat activists set fire to the house of Golam Rabbani, the ruling party MP from Chapainawabganj1, over submitting the nomination paper in the January 5 election.

On December 30, the 18-party members set fire on the shop of Shibganj Banik Samiti President Enamul Haque. Enamul was burnt alive as he was inside the shop during the arson attack.

Later, two separate cases were filed in this connection.
