Communication Minister Obaidul Quader has claimed that the fifth phase of the Upazila Parishad elections have been held in a freer and fairer manner than ever.
In a press briefing at Awami League president’s Dhanmondi office, Obaidul said: “This time the upazila poll has been held in a freer and fairermanner than all the previous local government elections.”
However, mentioning that the overall political situation for holding polls was better in 2009than of 2014.
He said: “Though the local government election is non-political, but political involvement was found in upazila election this time.
“So, we [Awami League] are thinking to hold upazila election under party lines,” he added.
The minister further said the government did not influence the upazila polls.
“The government had directed all to hold the election in a fair manner.”
