Brotee: EC, lawmen yield to political muscle

Update : 31 Mar 2014, 08:30 PM

Brotee, an election observer group, has observed that the seizure of polling centres, casting of fake votes and driving out agents from the polling booths were the incidents that dominated the final phase of upazila poll yesterday.

It observed that comparing with the first, second and the third phase the ruling party activists were more desperate to cast fake votes and occupy the poll centres during the last phase of election yesterday.

A total of 71 election observers watched the polling at eight upazilas, said a press release. Some 52% to 57% votes were cast at the poll yesterday, it said.

“In many places, polling officers and law enforcers yielded to the muscle power of the ruling party. Besides, the Election Commission could not tackle the illegal power exercise,” said the press release.
