BNP: AL desperate to bag poll results

Update : 30 Mar 2014, 10:39 AM

The BNP has alleged that the ruling party leaders became desperate to bag the upazila parishad election results in favor of them.

BNP Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed made the allegation in a press briefing at party’s Nayapaltan central office on Sunday afternoon.

He also alleged that the law enforcing agencies have been working as loyal cadre of the ruling party.

“We are receiving information that in almost all the upazilas, ruling party leaders and activists have been threatening the polling agents of the opposition party backed candidates not to go to the polling stations on the polls day.

Like the last four phases, they are following the same strategy to snatch away the polls results,” Salahuddin Ahmed, joint secretary general of the party said.

He apprehended that the ruling party backed candidates might snatch away the chairman and vice-chairman posts launching violence, occupying polling centres, illegal stamping and snatching away ballot boxes.

Criticizing the role of the election commission, the joint secretary general reiterated his demand for resignation of the commission shouldering the responsibility of failure.

Salahuddin said Awami League never tried for smooth continuation of democracy rather they killed democracy again and again.

“Still you have time, dissolve the illegal parliament and hold the national elections immediately otherwise tough movement will be waged to oust the government from the office,” he said.
