The general students of Dhaka University along with the members of Chhartra League have slammed Ganajagaran Mancha and its convener Dr Imran H Sarkar for using National flag colour (green and red) to make the stage of a rally and concert held on Wednesday on the occasion of the Independence Day.
The students formed a human chain under the banner of “Conscious Student” at DU Aparejeyo Bangla at around 12 noon in protest against the move and demanded punishment of the organizers for “diminishing the dignity of countries National flag.”
Later, they brought out a silent procession which ended in front of National Museum.
BCL central committee cultural affairs deputy secretary Sheikh Asman and DU unit BCL organising Secretary Aditto Nandi were present in the program.
The two leaders claimed that the organisers of Ganajagaran Mancha have demolished our national prestige by using its colours for making a stage.
It was a sign of not bearing the inspiration of our liberation war and glorious history,” said BCL leaders.
While contacted, Imran told the Dhaka Tribune that it is a conspiracy against the Mancha.
He said: “Sheikh Asman, one of the BCL members who took part today’s demonstration, demanded extortion from the Mancha activists on March 25, hours before the programme took place. And being failed to realise the extortion money, they are staging demonstration against us.”
