Election Commissioner Brigadier General (rtd) Jabed Ali has assured the inhabitants of Sreepur upazila a better law and order situation ahead of March 31 election in the upazila that was postponed amid sporadic clashes.
The election commissioner came up with the assurance while speaking at a view exchange meeting at the upazila conference room on Tuesday.
He said: “We have already scrutinized the law and order situation ahead of the rescheduled polls. Election commission is loyal to the people’s right of vote and sufficient law enforcing personnel will be deployed in all the 126 polling centers to avert any inconvenient situation.”
District Commissioner Nurul Islam and Superintendent of Gazipur Police Abdul Baten and both Awami League and BNP led 19-party backed candidates for Chairman and vice chairman post were also attending the dialogue.
Earlier on March 15, the Election Commission had postponed the election of Shreepur upazila parishad due to the pre-election violence and political unrest over the poll in the upazila.
More than 50 activists of both the Awami League and BNP were injured during the ghastly incident.
