All other candidates except the ruling AL backed five candidates in Monpura upazila parishad election of Bhola on Sunday.
BNP backed chairman candidate Shamsuddin Bachchu Chowdhury, independent chairman candidates Rakib Chowdhury and Zobayer Hasan Rajib Chowdhury, Jamaat backed vice chairman candidate Hafez Mawlana Rafikul Islam, independent candidate Yasmin Jahan Minu, Awami League rebel female vice chairman candidate Parvin Aktar Rebu announced boycotting the ongoing upazila poll at a press conference around 11am.
They also demanded fresh poll in the upazila.
Several irregularities including grabbing control of vote centres, rigging by stamping ballots openly, barring or ousting election agents and voters from the vote centres, biasness of Election Commission, administration, law enforcing agency officials, shown as causes of boycotting election by those six candidates.
Abu Sayeed, additional deputy commissioner Bhola and returning officer, said he was yet to be informed about boycotting election by the candidates.
