Mosharraf shifted to Ramna police station

BNP Standing Committee Member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain was taken to Ramna police station for custodial support from Gulshan police station.

The BNP leader was shifted around one and a half hours after his arrest by Gulshan Police in connection with in a money laundering case filed by Anti Corruption Commission.

Inspector Mashiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Ramna police station, has told the Dhaka Tribune.

A team of police arrested Mosharraf from his Gulshan residence of the capital at around 10:00pm and taken to Gulshan police station.

“As the case was filed with Ramna police station by the ACC, he has been shifted to Ramna police station at around 11:25pm for custodial support,” said the OC of Ramna police station.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has demanded immediate release of Mosharraf.

Nasim Anwar, a director of the ACC, filed the case earlier on February 6 in connection with money laundering charges for laundering Tk 9.53 crore in London while he had been the Health and Family Welfare Minister during the BNP-led four-party alliance rule.

The case statement reads that the BNP leader laundered around Tk9.53 crore to different countries when he was the minister for health and family planning from 2001 to 2006.

The case was filed under three provisions of the money laundering act-2002, 2009 and 2012, Rafat Ara Sultana, duty officer of Ramna police station earlier told the Dhaka Tribune.

Earlier on February 10, the High Court granted anticipatory bail to Khandaker Mosharraf for six weeks in the case.

Later on February 24, BNP leader Hossain's bail was cancelled by the Supreme Court.
