SUST Shibir calls hartal in Sylhet

Islami Chhatar Shibir of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) unit has called two-day down to dusk shutdown in Sylhet division on March 20 and 21.

SUST unit Chhatra Shibir general secretary Saiful Islam has announced the shutdown programme in a press conference on Monday.

Saiful said: “Shibir called the strike in protest against the expulsion of SUST unit President Ehsanul Karim and 13 other Shibir leaders and activists from the university.”

The student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami has also set deadline till March 18 to cancel the expulsion decision.

While talking, SUST Proctor Dr Himadri Shekhor Roy told the Dhaka Tribune that we would discuss the matter with the vice chancellor.

In February, SUST authorities permanently expelled 14 Shibir activists for vandalising the Chetana 71 sculpture on the campus and attacking a human chain formed by teachers and students protesting the vandalism.

Admission tests to the fist year honours courses for the 2013-14 session of the university is scheduled to be held on March 21.
