There might not be any reserve seats for women in the parliament soon, what LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam has hinted on Sunday.
From what he said, the government is planning to ensure women participation in the parliament directly through the national election.
This effectively means that the Awami League might be considering the female factor while flouting nomination papers in the future.
“We hope that the reserve seat for women will not be needed in the future,” Syed Ashraful Islam said while speaking to the media at the Election Commission.
He was submitting nominations for the positions of reserved women seats in the parliament.
“We expect they will be soon elected directly through election,” he said. “Our goal would be to ensure at least 20% women MPs through direct poll.”
“We are working for implementation of this target so that more women can come to the parliament through direct election,” Ashraf said.
