Update : 04 Mar 2014, 07:27 PM

Different political parties have condemned the ongoing power price hike which is creating suffering for the mass people.

Leaders of Bangladesh Communists Party (CPB) and Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Basad) are going to organize a mass sit-in programme before the Energy Regulatory Commission in the capital’s Karwan Bazar area around 11am.

CPB President Mujahidul Islam Selim, General Secretary Sayed Abu Zafar Ahmed and Basad General Secretary Khalequzzaman urged the people to make the programme successful, said a press release.

The release added that mass people had been suffering financially because of government’s corruption and ineffective initiatives in the power sector.

The press release also alleged that a sector of people had been earning money through cutting the pocket of people by increasing the power price gradually. The government decision of electricity price hike should be resisted.

On the other hand, Jatiya Mukti Council, Noyagonotantrik Gonomorcha, Jatiya Gonotantrik Gonomancha and Jatiya Gonofront’s central coordination committees held a meeting yesterday. They condemned the power price hike.

The leaders alleged that the government was involved in corruption.

They criticized the murder of opposition party leaders without trial and also forced disappearance of many leaders. They also demanded a stop to murders and violence.
