JL-BCL clash hurts 8 in Barisal

At least eight people have been injured in a clash between the activists of Jubo League, the youth front of Awami League, and Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling party, over leasing “hut-bazaar” in Gournadi upazila in the district on Monday afternoon.

Witnesses said the members of the upazila unit JL and BCL engaged in an altercation at Gournadi Palli Bidyut office compound around 11:30am over leasing Chandshi bazaar.

At one stage of the brawl, JL convening committee member Md Mithu assaulted BCL convening committee member Rakibul Islam Barkat.

Later, the matter was placed before AL leader and upazila Chairman Shah Alam Khan for arbitration.

A chase and counter chase ensued between the two groups immediately after they left the office of the upazila chairman, leaving eight activists injured on both sides.

The injured were admitted at Gournadi upazila Health Complex.

Later, Police held four BCL members from different parts of the upazila.

Gournadi police station Officer-in-Charge Abul Kalam said police detained BCL members Rubel, Barkat, Selim and Rumman in this connection.

However, no case was filed till filing the report at 7pm.
