The Election Commission has rejected an appeal of Tangail 8 by-election contender Abdul Kader Siddiqui and upheld the order of the returning officer.
“The commission has decided to uphold the order of Tangail’s returning officer, cancelling three appeals including Kader Siddiqui’s,” Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad told reporters yesterday.
The EC has also rejected the appeal of the Jatiya Party-backed candidate Kazi Ashraf Siddique on the same grounds and Jatiya Party (Manju)-backed candidate Sadek Siddique for not having his signature on the affidavit.
On February 26, Kader Siddiqui was declared ineligible to contest the Tangail 8 by-election for loan default.
