Polling in Moheshkhali upazila ends

The upazila election for chairman position in Moheshkhali upazila, Cox’s Bazar ended on Saturday.

The voting began at 8am and continued to 4pm, Assistant Returning Officer Anwarul Naser said.

He said 40 of the 68 polling stations in the area were vulnerable.

The upazila poll in this upazila was scheduled for February 27. But, a High Court bench deferred the date because of a Hindu religious festival.

One of the chairman aspirants Hossain Ibrahim said he was satisfied with the election. “I am confident of a victory if this continues.”

There are a total of 188,528 voters in the constituency – 96,873 males and 91,655 females.

About 2,000 Rapid Action Battalion, Bangladesh Navy, Coast Guard, Border Guard Bangladesh and nine magistrates were deployed for security.

There are 10 candidates for the chairman position, 10 for the position of vice chairman and four for the seat of women vice chairman.

Cox’s Bazar Police Additional Superintendent Tofail Ahmed said the election has been progressing peacefully.
