At least 12 people including policemen have been injured when hartal supporters clashed with law enforcers during a shutdown in Munshiganj Sadar on Saturday.
The hartal was called alleging irregularities in the recent upazila poll held at Munshiganj Sadar upazila, state-run BSS reported.
Munshiganj Sadar Jubo Dal President Mohammad Hossain Pusti, activists Nur Hossain and Faruk Hossain said to have been shot during the clash.
Hartal supporters blocked the road when police intervened around 10am, Munshiganj Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Shahidul Islam said.
“At least two policemen have been injured. Law enforcers were compelled to fire three short gun rounds to bring the situation under control.”
The injured have been taken to nearby hospitals.
BNP's chairman candidate Mosharraf Hossain and its aspirants for the position of vice chairman and women vice chairman alleged irregularities and boycotted the upazila election on February 27.
They had called for the hartal on that day.
