Shibir condemns IHS Jane’s report

Update : 25 Feb 2014, 09:32 PM

Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has strongly protested against a report by US-based defence think-tank IHS Jane’s that termed the Jamaat-e-Islami‘s student wing as a “top non-state armed group”.

“We strongly condemn and protest the report of IHS Jane’s. We were astonished when we heard Chhatra Shibir is a ‘top-non-state armed group’,” Chhatra Shibir president Abdul Jabbar and secretary general Atiqur Rahman said in a statement yesterday.

They said Chhatra Shibir was doing its work following legal and democratic process, and the student organisation did not believe in any undemocratic activities.

The Shibir leaders added that the organisation had no relation with any terrorist groups in or outside the country. They also said that without any documents, IHS Jane’s could not call Shibir an armed group.
