Update : 22 Feb 2014, 12:42 PM

The newly elected chairman of Atghoria upazila has been sued along with 34 other leaders and activists of the BNP and its key ally Jamaat-e-Islami for their alleged involvement with the post-poll violence in the upazila.

Officer-in-Charge of Atghoria police station M Monirul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune that two separate cases have been filed against the accused, including the newly elected upazila chairman, Moulana Johurul Islam.

Police have already arrested three individuals in the connection and sent them to jail, said the OC.

The cases were filed by Rafikul Islam and local Awami League leader Md Nikhil Kumar.

At least 10 people were injured while five houses and two motorbikes were vandalised during a clash between the supporters of Jamaat-backed chairman and the defeated chairman Md Shahidul Islam Ratan at Jumaikhiri village on Friday night, two days after the first phase of the upazila poll.
