Jamaat-Shibir secretly observe mother language day

Update : 21 Feb 2014, 06:52 PM

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir yesterday claimed that both the organisations had observed various programmes to mark International Mother Language Day.

The party, in a statement, said it held colourful processions, prayer programmes for the departed souls of language martyrs, discussion programmes, and free blood donations across the country, including in Dhaka, Chittagong and other city corporation areas, as part of its pre-announced schedule.

Commenting on the programme, the party’s central leaders said it was rare to find a country that had sacrificed lives for their mother language and that Bangladesh was the only one to do so.

Earlier, on Tuesday, the party announced its schedule for its programmes but it did not disclose the times and locations.

Jamaat Central Working Committee Member Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said they did not announce the locations in order to avoid police harassment.
