One fined for stamping ballot papers

A mobile court yesterday fined a man Tk20,000 on charge of stamping  ballot papers in a voting centre under Darbasta union of Gobindaganj upazila in the district.

The convict was identified as Faruque Hossain, 28, son of Baschhu Miah, in Balua village under the union.

According to sources, Faruque, a supporter of AL backed chairman candidate Abdul Latif Prodhan, was stamping ballot papers in Balua Government Primary School centre at 2 pm.

Journalists of print and electronic media entered the centre and took the video footage of him stamping papers.

Following the video footage, police arrested Faruque and produced him before the court.

The court led by Executive Magistrate Akterunnesa fined him Tk20,000 for stamping ballot papers and released him after realising the fine instantly.

ABM Zahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gobindaganj police station, confirmed the incident.
